Berlin Sumps
The Berlin sumps are designed to handle high flow with several stages to reduce bubbles. First the water flows through spray bars that help to evenly distribute the water. Next the water flows through the drawer, which can be used to hold filter media or a carbon bag. Beneath the drawer is a platform to hold bio balls or live rock. The bio ball or live rock is not intended to act as a bacteria bed, but is used to help suppress bubbles. Finally there are two more baffles that hold another platform which is typically used for a foam block.
